My husband is heartless, wicked; wife tells Judge

Date: 2014-05-10

A housewife, Sherifat Akeem, on Friday told an Ilorin Area Court that her husband, Shuaibu Akeem, was allegedly wicked and heartless.

Sherifat, 33, who resides in Alore Area, Ilorin, prayed the court to dissolve her five-year old marriage to her husband, Akeem, for being too heartless and rigid.

She alleged that her husband was too tough on her and did not care for anything that concerned his family.

"My husband is just too rigid and harsh on me and our children because he always frowns at us every time," she said.

The petitioner cited an instance when her daughter, Taofikat, was sick for two days and how her husband refused to provide money to buy her drugs.

"My husband has no human feelings because he shows 'I don't care attitude' to everything that concerns his family," said the plaintiff.

She told the court that the marriage was contracted in 2009 and had produced two children, Gani, 5, and Taofikat, 3.

"My Lord, I want an end to this marriage because I cannot cope with a heartless man anymore," said Sherifat.

The defendant objected to the prayer of his wife, saying he was still interested in the marriage.

"I am trying my best to make sure my family is in good condition, but my wife is not appreciating my effort, but I promise to care for my family and have time for them," he said.

He prayed the court not to grant the prayer of the plaintiff, and asked for an adjournment to enable him to make a reconciliatory move.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Yusuf Abdulkareem, adjourned the case until June 10 for a report of settlement or continuation of hearing
