Date: 2012-03-04

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has charged religion adherents to be one another's keepers for a peaceful and harmonious society.

The Governor who assured the people of equity and justice, made this remark while receiving the year 2011 Hajji report.

Alhaji Ahmed promised that Government will not relent in its commitment to the provision of quality services to all pilgrims from the State.

"Religion is not only about peace with our creator, but also about harmony with neighbors, irrespective of religion leanings", Gov. Ahmed said. "For a greater and better Nigerian", he continued, "we all must learn to be agents of peace as no religion preaches violence".

The Governor, who described Hajji as a spiritual uplifting exercise, informed the Board members that efforts have reached an advance stage to transform the Board in to a commission in line with the directives of the National Hajji Commission.

In order to enhance better service delivery, according to Gov. Ahmed, while efforts will be intensify to provide more conducive working environment, government shall also improve on the welfare package for the staff while in the holy land.

In his remark, the Chairman of the State Muslim Pilgrim Welfare Board, Imam Usman Sulaiman Olosun said a male pilgrim died during the 2011 Hajji out of the 2704 pilgrims that performed the exercise.

Imam Olosun requested the Kwara State Government to allow all Board members and secretariat staff to perform 2012 pilgrimage for more efficient service delivery to pilgrims.
