Kwara chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated the new Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Saheed Popoola and the new Special Assistant on Sports Matters, Bashorun Kayode Bankole on their appointments.

The Chairman and Secretary of Kwara SWAN, messrs Bunmi Adedoyin  and Jimoh Bashir in the statement, urged Hon. Popoola and Bankole to endeavor to bring new technologies of development of sports to bear in the quest to drive the policies of development and tap into the latent talents and the natural endowments of kids and youths in the state.

Popoola was former Chairman of Offa Local Government Area of Kwara State, and replaces Hajia Ramat Adeshina Abaya, who was also sworn-in as the Commissioner for Women Affairs.

Popoola fell in the same party with the ruling party in the state following the defection of the state Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed and Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki to the All Progressives Party (APC).

The new Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development hails from Laalu compound, Ojomu Central C, in Offa Local Government, Offa.

The statement commended Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed for appointing Special Assistant that has a sports background, as Bashorun Bankole has so far demonstrated in his short reign.

SWAN charged the Special Assistant and the Commissioner to work towards making the two Kwara teams, Kwara United and Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC return to the Premier League at the end of the season.

SWAN wishes they would have a successful tenure of office.
