Date: 2014-01-28

There is fresh tension in Ganmo community of Kwara State, following a communal clash which claimed the life of Ismail Kolawole, the eldest son of Oluganna of Ganna, Alhaji Abdullahi Kolawole.

Daily Trust gathered that the deceased aged 35 was shot in his car around 9:00 pm on Sunday while on a visit to his father's palace. He was rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH) at Oke Oyi by some policemen but was pronounced dead yesterday. Ganmo community in Ifelodun Local Government Area has been engulfed in recurring clashes over a chieftaincy stool whose ownership is being claimed by the Afonja Ganmo and Igbomina Ganmo.

It would be recalled that the traditional rulers-Oniganmo of Ganmo, Alhaji Anafi Zubairu and Oluganna of Ganna, Alhaji Kolawole who are laying claim to the stool were recently remanded in prison custody before they were later released.

The renewed attack accompanied by sporadic gunshots caused panic in the area as residents had to flee their homes for fear of attacks while schools and markets around the area hurriedly closed down.

Residents of the area told Daily Trust that scores of mobile policemen have been deployed to the area to restore normalcy.
