Kwara Govt Gives Contractors Marching Orders
The Kwara Government on Tuesday directed contractors handling road and bridge projects across the state to take advantage of the current dry season to complete them.
Alhaji Alabi Amuda, the Permanent Secretary, Kwara Ministry of Works and Transport, gave the directive while inspecting some ongoing road and bridge projects across the state in Okoh, Kwara.
Amuda, who was accompanied by some directors in the ministry, noted that road projects executed during the dry season were usually durable.
He said the state government was eager to take delivery of the bridges and roads within the shortest possible time.
The permanent secretary assured the contractors of prompt release of funds for the early completion of the projects.
He advised the contractors to execute the projects in line with specifications, warning that the state government would not pay contractors who did shoddy jobs.
At Okoh Bridge in Irepodun Local Government Area, the permanent secretary expressed displeasure over the delay in completing the job, which the contractor said was due to structural challenges.
At Ilala Bridge, also in Irepodun, Amuda directed the contractor to ensure compliance with specification and work schedule.
He also inspected the Oloro Palace Road project, where the concrete drainage works were nearing completion.
At the NNPC Pipeline Bridge, Ilorin, he urged the contractor to ensure early completion of the project.
Amuda thanked Gov. AbdulFatah Ahmed, for his special interest in the completion of the bridge projects during this dry season, by promptly releasing all outstanding payments to the contractors. (NAN)
