'Tukur should have resigned before defection of G-5 governors'
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Kwara State that defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) have described the resignation of Alhaji Bamanga Tukur as a belated action not capable of having any impact on reconciling aggrieved former party members saying Tukur should have resigned before the five PDP governors including Governor Abdulfatha Ahmed defected to the APC.
Former State chairman of the party, Ishola Balogun-Fulani reacting to the resignation of Tukur last week in a chat with Daily Trust said Tukur had done great damage to the party, saying his resignation is immaterial.
"Resigning does not make any difference. He should have resigned long ago. He has done a lot of damages to the party", he said.
On move by President Goodluck Jonathan to woo G5 governors including Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed back to PDP, the ex-PDP chairman declined comments, referring Daily Trust correspondent to the governor and former Governor Bukola Saraki.
Also speaking, former PDP Chairman in Kwara Central, Alhaji Jimoh Adesina stressed that Tukur should have quit long before the aggrieved governors pitched tent with APC, noting that the fifth columnists in the party and the administration of Jonathan are bent on destroying the party.
The party's foundation, Adesina who is a devout Saraki's loyalist noted, had been "bulldozed", adding that rebuilding it has to start from the scratch.
He reflected on why some PDP members from the state joined the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the party had metamorphosed into a party of deceit where members cannot freely express their opinions.
Adesina maintained that the leadership of the party should have endeavoured to meet some of the demands of the aggrieved members, lamenting that those in charge were not ready to make sacrifice and save the party from brinkmanship.
