Kwara donates cancer drugs to UITH
The Kwara State Government on Wednesday in Ilorin donated drugs to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for cancer patients.
Presenting the drugs, Elder Peter Kisira, the Deputy Governor, said the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria donated the drugs to the state government during the society’s annual conference.
Kisira said that the donation was made in public interest and in line with the policy of the government to make the wellness of the people a priority.
He said that UITH had been chosen to receive the drugs because it possessed relevant manpower to make use of the drugs, which would be widely accessed by patients.
The Deputy Governor commended the management of the UITH for the swift response to the drugs presentation and prayed for better collaboration between UITH and the state government.
Receiving the drugs, Prof. Abdulwaheed Olatinwo, the Chief Medical Director of UITH, commended the government for the contribution to the well-being of the mankind.
Olatinwo described cancer as a deadly disease and whose cause had not been fully ascertained.
The CMD said that that the cost of drugs for treatment of cancer patient was enormous, adding: "The drugs will go a long way to ease the suffering and expenses of patients."
In her vote of thanks, Cecilia Ayo-Bello, the Director Administration of UITH, described the state government intervention as "timely".
Ayo-Bello reminded the government of other requests made by the UITH to boost the health sector.
