Kwara acquires distribution transformers to boost power supply
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, said the state government has procured and distributed 39 distribution transformers of various ratings across the 16 local government areas of the state in an effort to boost power supply in the state.
Noting that stable power supply was inevitable for industrial growth and commercial activities, he stated on Tuesday that the state government had in 2013 ensured that 11 rural communities in the state were connected to the national grid while broken down networks and vandalised sub-stations were restored across the state.
The governor said a tremendous progress was recorded in the electrification of towns and villages, transformer dropping and rehabilitation of streetlights.
He added that the state government had also completed three street light projects at Offa Garage Road, Abdul Azeez Attah Road and Tanke Junction to the University of Ilorin.
According to Ahmed, the presence of the street lights has improved security and further enhanced the aesthetic quality of the state capital.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Offa Local Government Council, Kwara State, Mr. Abdulwaheed Olanipekun, has said that his administration has procured and installed two 500KVA transformers to boost electricity in the council.
The affected areas are Idiogun, General Hospital and Atan-Oba.
He added that a 300KVA transformer was also installed at the Alubata community.
He said a transformer at Ejiwumi was energised for the community to have its power supply restored after many months of darkness.
Olanipekun said the council was pursuing with vigour its ongoing Independent Power Project.
“When the IPP is completed, we will have enough transformers for the energy requirements of the local council,” he said.
