Kwara police command deploys 7,000 personnel for council election

Date: 2013-10-25

The Police Command in Kwara State on Thursday said it deployed 7,000 personnel to the 15 local government areas where the council election would take place on October 26.

The Commissioner of Police, Oshodi Glover, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on the command's preparedness for the election.

According to Glover, 3,000 of the 7,000 personnel deployed for the election are from neighbouring states of Osun and Ekiti, while the remaining 4,000 are drawn from the Kwara State command.

Glover said those coming from neighbouring states had started arriving to familiarise themselves with the environment ahead of the election.

"The command is ready for the election and we shall not leave any stone unturned to ensure the provision of maximum security during and after the election," he said.

He warned trouble makers to stay away from the state or face the consequences of their action.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has denied allegations that the party does not have candidates in the Saturday local government polls.

The state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Ishola Fulani, denied the allegation when he addressed newsmen on the party's preparedness for the election in Ilorin on Thursday.

Fulani said the party was presenting 181 councillorship and 15 chairmanship candidates for the polls.

In a related development, the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission said it would dispatch electoral materials to the councils on October 25.

The KWSIEC Director of Information, Alhaji Dauda Nurudeen, made the disclosure in an interview with NAN in IIorin.

Nurudeen said the commission had put necessary machineries in place for the conduct of credible, reliable and successful polls.
