The eight edition in honour of Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, according to the Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC), Alhaji Ali Olola, who is the Special Assistant, Non-Governmental to His Excellency, Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, is in commemoration the 79th birthday of Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki.

But, YSFON Chairman, Prince Ademola Kiyesola said he is not aware when Emirate Youth Sport started organizing the Waziri Ilorin Cup to have reached its eight edition.

The chairman in a statement made available by the State Media Officer of YSFON, Mr. Yusuf Feruke, noted that the Waziri Ilorin Cup originated from Kwara State YSFON in conjunction with Emirate Youth Forum, with the first edition staged in 2004 in Ilorin.

But speaking on the importance of the annual soccer event, Olola said that the competition will serve as an avenue to positively and actively engage the youths in order to discourage them from social vices, and also discover hidden talents in the state.

He, therefore, charged all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Leaders and Chairman of the 16 Local Governments to ensure the participation of their teams in the competition.
