Ex-PDP Assembly members condemn KKHA over suspension of Agboola
The forum of former lawmakers in the Kwara State House of Assembly has condemned the All Progressives Congress dominated Assembly for asking the lone member of the party in the legislative arm, Jimoh Raheem Agboola, to stay away for two weeks from the House.
Addressing a press conference in Ilorin on Tuesday, the spokesman of the forum, Dr. Abraham Ashaolu, said ” it is quite unfortunate and a dent on our democracy to follow the shameful trend in the Kwara House of Assembly, where the only opposition figure in the Assembly, Raheem Agboola, representing Ilorin South constituency, has been subjected to ridicule by other members from the ruling APC under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
“The decision to ask him to stay away from the hallowed chamber for speaking out in the interest of his constituency is totally unlawful.
The spokesman asserted that “doing so without any tangible investigation as claimed, harassing him on the floor of the house, blocking him from gaining access to the hallowed chamber and again having the foolhardiness to reprimand him afterwards amounts to ‘super legislative rascality’, abuse of the constitution and the rules of the House.”
Ashaolu, said the 9th members of the Kwara State House of Assembly need to cover their faces in shame for being the governor’s stooge and allow Raheem Agboola perform the duty his people elected him for.
He cautioned the state House of Assembly to desist from any act capable of discrediting the integrity of the House, adding that their major concern as key stakeholders in the state is to ensure peace and harmony in the state.
Ashaolu, described as unfortunate the current crop of members in the state Assembly in Kwara who he claimed have turned themselves to pun chess in the hands of the executive arm.
” No wonder, the Court of Appeal called their actions on Raheem Agboola, the lone opposition member as ‘Legislative Rascality’.
The spokesman said the House of Assembly is a public institution whose integrity and sacredness have been built and preserved through hard work, uncommon sacrifice, commitment and a high level of patriotism by all ex-lawmakers irrespective of the political party affiliations.
