Kwara PDP Primary Crisis: How names of Ilorin West delegates were allegedly doctored, replaced

Date: 2014-12-05

Following the latest crisis that rocked the Kwara State chapter of the People Democratic Party (PDP) over the last primary election, National Pilot has obtained document on how the names of some of the delegates were allegedly doctored with the outright replacement of some.

The crisis allegedly led to the present stalemate as regards the result of the congress in Ilorin West Local Government as the state branch of the party is yet to ratify the full result of the election five days after it was conducted.

National Pilot gathered that after the ward delegates’ election last month, results of six wards in Ilorin West Local Government were returned inconclusive allegedly because some of the names of the ward delegates were doctored.

The affected wards, it was further learnt, were Wara-Osin, Adewole, Ajikobi, Ojuekun Sarumi, Ogidi and Oloje out of the 12 wards in the LG.

National Pilot gathered that in an attempt to resolve the issue amicably, party leaders and stakeholders were requested to nominate three candidates each rather than going for another election.

The two documents obtained from one of the party’s sources revealed alleged massive tinkering with the names of the delegates that were contained in the two lists.

For instance, while the list of the wards delegates’ election held on November 1st had Saliu Saheed, Yusuf Abdullahi Onitangaran and Jimoh Omowumi as the elected delegates out of the seven that contested in Baboko ward, only Saliu Saheed allegedly made the list of delegates that voted at the primaries purportedly held at Oba Ajara Guest House, Wara Osin, last Saturday.

Same scenario was also said to have played out in Oko-Erin where only Alhaji Ibrahim Magaji made the list from the initial wards delegates list and Alhaja Balkis Etudiaye, and Hakeem Rahman Oladoja were allegedly “imposed” on Musa Yinusa, Saba Olowo and Usman Afusat.

The document of ward delegate, which was earlier held on November 1st, was signed by the 3- member monitoring committee of the local government chaired by Alhaji Kawu Shuaib.

“That was what they did in all the wards in Ilorin West. It was the fear of being accosted violently that made them to shun the Yebumot hotel venue and relocated to Oba Ajara’s guest house in Wara-Osin.

“In some places, all the three delegates were replaced outrightly in wards like Ogidi, Magaji Ngeri, Wara-Osin, Ajikobi, Oloje, Ojuekun, among others.

“In places like Ubandawaki, Oko-Erin, Baboko and Alanamu, only one delegate each made the delegates list as the others were selected by the Minister and his cohorts. The other two authentic names were removed completely”, the source added.

Responding to question on when the result of primaries for Ilorin West would be released, the Chairman of the Party, Iyiola Oyedepo, said the party will handle the issue appropriately.

Confirming the ratification of the result of 15 out of the 16 local governments in the state, the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the party, Femi Yusuf, told this medium that 15 local government elections in the state were concluded peacefully without any rancour, adding that the issue of Ilorin West will be concluded at a later date.
