Ahmed promises to start Kwara North roads

Date: 2014-10-20

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji AbdulFattah Ahmed has assured traditional rulers from the state’s northern region that work would soon commence on the Kishi-Kaiama and Ilesha Baruba-Gwanara Roads to ease the transportation challenges confronting the people of the areas.

The governor, according to Government House sources, made the pledge while receiving the traditional rulers who came to endorse him for a second term in office.

He solicited their support of in creating enabling environment for socio-economic activities to thrive.

It was learnt that the traditional rulers, led by Etsu Patigi and vice chairman of Kwara State Traditional Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Chatta Umar, gave their endorsement when they paid a congratulatory visit to Governor Ahmed at the Government House in Ilorin on his recent awards, both at home and in far away France.

And in a related development, women in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are demanding the deputy governorship seat as well as an arrangement that would give them 35 percent of the council chairmanships, vice chairmanships, councillorship, commissionerships, ministerial and board appointments if the party wins the next general elections in the state.

They submitted that with more women in policy making and implementation, Kwara and the nation would be made safer, cleaner and better to live in and asked the Kwara PDP to emulate few neighbouring  states like Ondo, Ekiti, Lagos that have women as deputy state governors and President Goodluck Jonathan who deliberately increased women participation in governance.

The women pointed out that it was time to reverse the trend massive support for men during election primaries, campaign and poll victories only to be given peanuts and forgotten till another elections periods.

Central Women Leader of the party, Hajia Kuburat Abdullateef, who made the call while launching the women’s wing of the Kwara  Central Senatorial District of PDP in the state, said such demands was necessitated by the need for gender equity in the scheme of things in the party.
