Bond: Saraki confirms making clarifications at EFCC
Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State and Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki has confirmed his visits to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) last Monday and Tuesday to make some clarifications on the bond his administration secured for specific physical developments of the State.
Senator Saraki who was the immediate past governor of Kwara State disclosed this while answering questions from newsmen at the Mandate Hall, Olorunsogo, Ilorin before briefing a cross section of Kwara youth on the on going political development in the State.
The lawmaker said his invitation by the EFCC was to clear some issues arising from how the bond was utilized for the infrastructural development of the State.
Senator Saraki explained that some of the physical projects executed with the bond by his administration included Kwara State University, Malete; road construction and rehabilitation, rural electrification, water reticulation, International Aviation College, Ilorin and Shonga Farms among others.
The senator emphasized that the process of securing bonds was a rigorous one as Kwara State had to undergo fitch rating and other international best practises.
According to him, Kwara State was thus the first state in Nigeria to be rated by fitch before being adjudged fit enough for the bond .
According to him " the bond was not available to any government to use for personal things considering the stress associated with it. These are the issues I explained to the commission".
The Senator who said although the investigating officers behaved professionally, added that at a time like this, he would not be surprised if another arm of the security agencies comes up with another matter on the never ending investigation.
On the withdrawal of his security personnel, Senator Saraki said the issue would be resolved, adding that the issue should not be personalised or trivialised since it is a legal matter.
