Playing at home difficult - Kwara Utd coach
Coach Samson Unuanel, the Technical Adviser, Kwara United FC of Ilorin, has said that it was easier for his team to win away matches than winning on their home ground.
Unuanel disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin moments after his team narrowly defeated visiting Enugu Rangers 1-0 in a mid-week Globacom League match.
"My players always find it difficult to settle down while playing in Ilorin because of the nature of our fans. My players suffered a draw in our previous home match against Sharks of Port Harcourt in Ilorin. However, we went to Owerri and shocked Heartland FC in week 24 of the league with a 1-0 victory,’’ he said.
Unuanel noted that it was hard to believe that the United that won in Owerri could struggle to win at home against Rangers. "When you look at the age of my players and their exposure, you will discover that when they play at home with the type of fans we have, they find it difficult to settle down. You will not believe that this is the team that played in Owerri, but as time goes on, they will get used to it,’’ he added.
According to the coach, the points lost at home could have taken the team to the top of the league. He, however, guaranteed Kwara soccer fans a continental ticket at the end of the league.
"We will continue to do what we know how to do best and at the end of the day, we will give to the Kwara State government and fans what they have been yearning for,’’ Unuanel said.
He added that his team would approach every remaining match in the league the way they come, stressing that they were ready to tackle Nasarawa United on Sunday the in week 26 match of the league.
Kwara United are currently placed third on the premiership log with 41 points from 25 matches.
