Date: 2013-07-18

The remains of an ex-international, Thompson Oliha, who died at  44 years, would be buried at Ori-Edo, Benin,  Edo State on Friday, July 26.

According to a statement by the Head, Corporate Affairs, Harmony Holdings Limited, Mr. Tunde Abodunde, the body of Oliha will depart Ilorin, Kwara State on Friday, July 19 enroute to Edo State. Oliha’s last working place was the Kwara State Football Academy, a subsidiary of Kwara Holdings.  He was the coach of the Under-19 category at the KFA, Ilorin.

The statement added that on arrival at Benin, a valedictory football match in honour of the deceased will take place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin between Friends of Oliha and KFA on July 19.

Oliha will later be buried in his home town, Ori-Edo Benin on the 26th. He passed on in the early hours of June 30, 2013 at Yusjib Industrial Medicare, Ilorin.  He is survived by a wife and three children.

Prior to his death, he had led the KFA team to a victory over visiting Ben Machezie Football Foundation of Mali on June 29 and reportedly later started vomiting. The ill-health deteriorated the following morning as he was said to have slumped in a toilet at his Offa Garage residence in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The former Iwuanyanwu Nationale midfielder was a member of the Super Eagles that won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia, and was also in the team at the 1994 World Cup in the USA. He made his last international appearance at that world event in the match against Italy.
