Ramadan: Omolewa Ahmed donates food, cash to widows

Date: 2013-07-20

The wife of Kwara State Governor, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, yesterday in Ilorin donated food items, cash and beverages to 500 Muslim widows in the 16 local government areas of the state.

The items including rice, milk, sugar and wheat flour were distributed by Mrs. Ahmed under the auspices of her pet project, LEAH Charity Foundation.

Represented by her Special Assistant on Special Duties, Hajia Aminat Kannike, she said that the gesture was part of activities lined up for the widows during the on-going Ramadan.

"The gesture is to demonstrate love and care for our mothers who are now widows.

"By this token, we want to cushion the effects of the hardship they may be experiencing as a result of the death of their spouses," she said.

Ahmed said her foundation would not relent in its efforts to assist the less-privileged regardless of their religion or political affiliation.

She appealed to wealthy individuals to come to the aid of widows and the less-privileged in the society.
