NDLEA arrests 148 drug suspects in Kwara
The Kwara State Command of the National Drugs Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested 148 suspected drugs peddler in the last one year.
During the period, the agency seized 898.715 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa (Indian hemp) in about 60 operations.
The State Commander of the NDLEA, Segun Oke, gave the figures when he addressed reporters yesterday in Ilorin, the state capital, to mark this year’s United Nations (UN) Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking.
The theme of this year is: New Psychoactive Substances.
Oke explained that the agency convicted 18 persons, counselled 178 and rehabilitated 28 prsons.
He said: “To mark this year’s event, weeklong activities have been put in place by the NDELA in the state. They include raids of flashpoints, a Juma’at service, a Sunday service, a public rally and the grand finale on June 26 (tomorrow).
“This theme is for year 2013 and, therefore, will guide our programmes until June 2014,” Oke said.
The NDLEA commander hailed the state and federal governments for their relentless war against drug trafficking and abuse.
