We're committed to giving Nigeria positive image - VC
The Vice chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali has disclosed that the university is projecting Nigeria's image positively in the comity of nations through its accomplishments that have earned it national and international accolades.
Prof. Ambali stated this while receiving the new Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, Mr. Agboola Oshodi-Glover, who visited him.
"We are giving good image to Nigeria. We project Nigeria positively. We value our contributions to the nation and we don't want to lose it."
He added that parents, members of the National Assembly and the international community have recognised and applauded the positive contributions the university is making to the growth of the country.
According to him, "The university is very unique as it has maintained a stable academic calendar for over a decade. This is due to the peaceful atmosphere on campus.
"The university has zero tolerance for cultism and other anti-social behaviour. We commend the police authorities for partnering the university to fight cultism."
While expressing confidence that majority of his students are disciplined and well-behaved, the VC however said effort is being made to ensure that a few bad ones among them are fished out.
He also expressed his condolences to the Kwara State Police Command over the death of the former Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Chinwike Asadu, who he described as a friend of the university and congratulated the new Commissioner of Police on his appointment and wished him a successful tenure.
In his remarks, CP Oshodi-Glover said that he was on familiarisation visits to stakeholders in the state with a view to strengthening the joint work on community policing.
He assured the university of the support and cooperation of the police in ensuring the security of life and property on campus and the larger community.
