'Ilorin airport cargo terminal 90% completed'

Date: 2013-05-27

The Ilorin International Airport cargo terminal is 90 per cent completed, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Abubakar Kannike has said.

He said when it is completed and becomes operational, it would be a major contributor to the economy of Kwara state.

Briefing newsmen on the second anniversary of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed's administration, the commissioner explained that the aviation sector "has seen significant mileages" under Governor Ahmed.

He said, "When the cargo terminal is completed and ready for business, it would be a major contributor to the economy of Kwara state, while creating a lot of employment in that sub-sector.

On the Ilorin International college, he said it is about admitting the fifth batch of pilots in training, adding, "Our first batch of pilots in training, SP-1, would be doing their graduation hopefully by July, August and we would be having the first set of private sector licenced commercial pilots that we would be releasing into the industry"

Kannike explained that the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) recently renewed the licence of the college for another two years."
