Oloyede Tasked on Religious Harmony
Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Barrister Razak Atunwa, has charged the new Secretary General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, to use his wealth of experience to ensure harmonious relationship among the diverse ethno-religious groups in the country.
Atunwa, who congratulated Oloyede on his appointment in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Alhaji Abdulrahman Sanni, expressed confidence in the ability of the appointee to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, Late Dr. Abdul Lateef Adegbite.
He described his appointment as appropriate and in recognition of his numerous contributions to the propagation of Islam.
Meanwhile, Oloyede has stressed the need for more rapport and harmonious relationship between Muslims and Christians, saying, as a professor of Islamic Studies, he would be at the vanguard of promoting peaceful and harmonious co-existence among Muslims and Christians in the country.
Speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, the former vice chancellor of University of Ilorin said, "I feel great, I feel challenged and I pray that God will see me through. You expect a more vibrant Islamic community that is much more involved in what goes on in the country. Of course there would be more rapport between Christians and Muslims. I'm a professor of Islamic Studies and the first rule is that you must love your neighbour as much as you love yourself".
