2 Remanded for Allegedly Stabbing Bailiffs
An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded an electrician, Nnamdi Nwosisi and Kudirat Adebayo, for allegedly stabbing two bailiffs while performing their lawful duties.
The accused were alleged to have stabbed the victims on May 3 while executing an authority of warrant to obtain possession of a piece of land situated at Pipe-Line Road, Ilorin.
According to the charge sheet, the accused also broke the wind screen of a Peugeot 504 car with registration number CG583AAA belonging to the owner of the land, one Mr Ladejobi Durotoye.
The charge sheet said the accused had been illegal occupants of the piece of land without payment which necessitated the court’s action against them.
It said the land was being used for illegal activities by the accused persons.
It also said that the accused were later arrested by their neighbours for allegedly causing unrest in the neighbourhood.
The two accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Nasiru Yusuf, told the court that the accused were arraigned on a six-count charge of criminal conspiracy, force, causing grievous hurt, obstructing public servant , disturbance of public peace and mischief.
He said the offences were contrary to sections 97, 263,242, 113, 327 and 95 of the Penal Code.
He objected to the bail of the accused on ground that the offences were not ordinarily bailable.
The Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed, in his ruling, ordered the remand of the accused in Mondala prison yard, Ilorin and adjourned the case to May 21 for mention. (NAN)
