We're not compelled to sell kerosene - IPMAN boss

Date: 2012-03-13

Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has organised the sale of N50 per litre of kerosene to consumers in Ilorin metropolis as part of the routine distribution of kerosene for the people.

Speaking with Community News in Ilorin, Secretary, IPMAN, Ilorin Depot, Alhaji Mustapha Muhydeen, on behalf of the Chairman, IPMAN, Ilorin depot, Chief Agbolade Bolaji, said the challenges facing the association was that members were not given the products by the Nigeria National Petroleum Commission (NNPC) hence, they were not selling.

"Each time we are given, we sell. This one, we are not compelled to sell it. It is just because we have the facilities and we are given the product that is why we are selling it. If we are given at N50 per litre, the marketers are willing to sell," he said.

The IPMAN boss, who said it was possible to sell kerosene at N50 per litre in the country, added that, it depends on the central administration.

He also said that continued sale of the kerosene would be made possible by members in Kwara, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Kogi and Niger states.

"It is being distributed. Everybody is eligible and capable of selling as soon as he is given. So this time, we have given to some members of Ilorin depot. Another time, we get to other areas. It is routine

Also speaking, the Zonal Auditor for Western Zone of the association, Mr Jimoh Bakare, speaking on
behalf of the zonal chairman, Mr Olumide Ogunmade, said the NNPC had been trying but needed more cooperation from the corporation.

"In as much as the product is available, IPMAN is ready to sell at N50. The masses are happy. Consumers are happy to buy at the rate of N50", he said, adding that, "Any marketer that defaults will get some sanctions. We will continue to sell the product in as much as the product is available."

A consumer, Mrs Bosede Aransiola, said "I am very happy that they are selling kerosene at this rate. I want them to continue to sell at this rate. We were buying between N110 and N130. I want IPMAN and NNPC to continue to sell at N50 per litre."
