FG, NUC Asked to Reward Researchers

Date: 2013-04-29

The Federal Government and the National Universities Commission (NUC) have been urged to formulate a policy that will reward and motivate productive researchers/academics whose findings are published in international journals.

This, according to Professor Folahan Adekola of the Department of Chemistry, University of Ilorin, will encourage academics to embark on researches that would place Nigeria on the same pedestal with the advanced countries.

Prof. Adekola also called for encouragement for those, who had in addition to their research works, had successfully supervised masters’ and doctoral candidates.

The Professor of Chemistry spoke while delivering an inaugural lecture entitled: “The heart of science in the service of man,” in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

He called on the government to adequately fund researches in the nation’s universities and also grant waivers to research institutes for timely, quality and cost effective procurement of facilities.
