Nnaji: Police'll Find Kwara CP's Killers Soon
Senator Gilbert Nnaji representing Enugu-East senatorial zone Saturday expressed dismay over the gruesome murder of the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Chinwike Asadu, by unknown gunmen within his (Nnaji's) constituency, expressing optimism that the police would soon track down on the killers of the CP.
This is coming even as the members of the National Assembly from Enugu North senatorial zone including Senator Ayogu Eze, Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi representing Igboeze North/Udenu and Hon. Asadu representing Igboeze South/Nsukka constituency where the late CP hailed from yesterday equally lamented the killing of the CP, asking the security operatives to fish out those behind the dastardly act.
Speaking when he visited the family of the slain police commissioner at their Amorji Nike residence, less than 100 metres away from where the CP was assassinated last Saturday, Nnaji who is also the chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications said already the National Assembly has asked the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar to find the CP killers.
He said that though the country had been experiencing some level of insecurity occasioned by the activities of the Boko Haram Islamic group in some parts of the north, and that of kidnappers in some parts of the south east and south-south zones, the killing of the CP clearly showed that the situation was assuming a more frightening dimension.
He challenges the police authorities at the headquarters as well as the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Tonye Ebitibituwa to ensure that the killers of the CP were found within a record time as that would be the only way to allay the fears of Nigerians that there is fire on the mountain.
"It's really unfortunate that such a thing happened here; this is a man what was just promoted not long ago; he was the only police commissioner from Enugu state and now we have lost him. I can imagine the pain; members of his family are passing through now. Already, we have brought the situation to the notice of the national assembly ad accordingly the IG has been asked to find the killers and I am very sure that before long, something will certainly happen.
"I want to console the family and assure them that we are all mourning together and for sure, we are not going to abandon the family at this trying period," he said.
Asadu was penultimate Saturday shot and killed by yet-to-be identified gunmen less than 50 metres to his private residence located within the Amorji-Nike of Enugu-East local government area of the state. He hailed from Onuiyi community in Nsukka local government area of the state.
