FG Promises to Partner KWSG in Resolving Inter and Intra LG Boundary and Land Disputes
The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to partner with the Kwara State Government in resolving all inter and intra local government boundary and land disputes in the state, with a view to bringing peace and harmony in the affected areas.
The Director-General National Boundary Commission, Doctor Mohammed Ahmed, stated this in Ilorin, during a meeting with government officials led by the State Deputy Governor, Elder Peter Kisira and the representatives of the warring committees held at Government House Ilorin.
Represented by the Director Inter-State Boundary Disputes under the Commission, Alhaji Bashir Shettima, said the responsibility of the government in creating an enabling environment for development in the nooks and crannies of the country was not neglected, hence government accord the resolution of boundary and land disputes in the state high priority.
He highlighted the concerted efforts made by the Federal Government in promoting oneness of the people along borderlines and urged parties in court over land and boundary matters to withdraw such cases with a view to paving way for amicable resolution of the crisis.
Reacting to boundary issues between Nigeria and other countries such as Benin Republic and Cameroun, Alhaji Shettima, assured that the commission would remove any impediment that could bring about conflict within the country and its neighubours.
Earlier in his remarks, the State Deputy Governor, and Chairman State Boundary Committee, Elder Peter Kisira had highlighted some of the land and Boundary matters confronting the state including Nigeria/Benin Boundary problems which he said had claimed lives in Kwara/Oyo, Kwara/Ekiti, Kwara/Kogi, Kwara/Osun and Kwara/Niger States Boundary Crisis.
The Deputy Governor while soliciting Federal Government’s intervention in the resolution of the boundary and land disputes especially in the area of payment of compensation to land owners, urged the communities to live together as brothers and sisters.
