UNILORIN Law Faculty Sets Record as 16 Graduates Earn First Class at Bar Exams

Date: 2026-08-31

No fewer than 16 graduates of the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), have bagged First Class Honours in the just-concluded Bar Final Examinations of the Nigerian Law School.

Another 58 graduates of the faculty obtained Second Class Upper honours in the examinations.

The feat, according to the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Bashir Omipidan, marks the first time in the history of both the faculty and the university that such a large number of its graduates would achieve First Class in the Bar Final Examinations.

The First Class graduates are Barakat Ogungbe, Adeniyi Isreal, Mubarak Owoade, Kamaldeen Akanji, Farida Adeowu, Tomiwa Ademiju, Glory Oladipo, Joel Victor, Nneoma Mbalewe, Abdullahi AbdulAzeez, Boluwatife Oni-Kayode, Adeola Abass, Mariam Oyewumi, Nana Aisha AbdulMaleeq, Rahmat Aduke Oba and Dorcas Oyedele.

In a memo to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, the dean attributed the outstanding performance partly to the university's investment in the faculty and the vice-chancellor's administrative approach to improving service delivery.

Reacting to the achievement, Egbewole described the performance as a source of joy and pride for both the Faculty of Law and the university.

The Vice-Chancellor, through the Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, said he had always expected the faculty to achieve record-breaking results, describing it as one of the leading law faculties in Nigeria in terms of staffing, facilities and service delivery.

Egbewole, who is also a member of the Body of Benchers, said the achievement reflected the individual hard work, brilliance, discipline and resilience of the graduates, as well as the strong academic foundation and culture of excellence developed at the university.

While congratulating the 16 First Class graduates, the vice-chancellor also commended other graduates of the faculty who successfully passed the Bar examinations with various grades.

The Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law described the achievement as a proud moment for the university and evidence of its continued commitment to academic and professional excellence.

Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities, urged the graduates to uphold the values of the university and remain good ambassadors in their future professional endeavours.
