Students of the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Kwara State University (KWASU) have emerged winners of the inaugural National Drone Soccer Competition.

The KWASU team comprising Otitoju Great Grace, Ahmad Ibrahim, Azeezat Raheem and Fawaz defeated Lagos State University (LASU) 16-5 in the final to claim the championship.

The competition, organised by Caverton UAV Solutions in collaboration with the Government of South Korea, was held in Lagos on April 4, 2026.

Drone Soccer is an innovative technology-driven sport that uses unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, with competing teams controlling drones to score goals against their opponents.

KWASU also secured third position in the competition through its second team, comprising Salaudeen Abdulbasit, Ayomide Adelabu, Phoebe Obafemi, Gloria Osunbiyi and Victor Ashogbon.

Receiving the victorious students in his office, the Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh, commended the students for demonstrating the practical value of the knowledge and skills acquired through their studies in the Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

He urged the students to build on their achievement, further develop their technical skills and improve their performance ahead of the next edition of the competition scheduled for November.

The achievement further highlights KWASU's growing focus on practical, technology-driven education and innovation in emerging fields.
