KWASU Clarifies Staff Salary Structure, Dismisses Online Report as False
The management of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has dismissed as misleading and factually incorrect claims that its employees are not benefiting from the new N100,000 minimum wage.
In a statement issued by the Director of University Relations, Prof. Saeedat Aliyu, the university clarified that its teaching, non-teaching, and technology staff receive salaries comparable to those of their counterparts in federal universities across the country.
The clarification was in response to a recent online publication which alleged that the Kwara State Government's implementation of the new minimum wage did not extend to KWASU staff, describing the policy as a mere publicity stunt.
Rejecting the allegations, the university management explained that the individuals referenced in the publication are not KWASU employees. Rather, they are part-time workers engaged to supervise privately owned student hostels within and around the university community.
According to the management, "the workers are neither employed by the university nor covered by its salary structure, making the comparison with university staff inaccurate."
The university also highlighted the substantial support it has received from the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, noting that his administration's investments have significantly contributed to the institution's growth in teaching, research, and infrastructure.
KWASU described the online publication as lacking any factual basis and urged the public to disregard it. The management also called on media organisations to ensure thorough verification of information before publication to avoid spreading misinformation.
