KW-IRS Extends Tax Return Filing Deadline to April 14
The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KW-IRS) has announced a two-week extension for the filing of 2025 Individual Annual Tax Returns, shifting the deadline from 1st April to 14th April 2026.
The Executive Chairman of KW-IRS, Shade Omoniyi, made the disclosure in a statement issued on Monday, 30th March 2026, explaining that the extension is aimed at giving taxpayers more time to comply with their civic responsibilities and avoid penalties.
According to her, "the decision to extend the deadline became necessary to provide additional time for taxable persons in the state to fulfil their civic obligations and avoid sanctions for late filing."
Omoniyi also revealed that the agency has strengthened its awareness campaigns and put in place measures to ensure a smooth filing process, particularly through its electronic platform.
"We have intensified our advocacy efforts and deployed adequate measures to guarantee seamless filing through the KW-IRS Self-Service Portal, following our full transition from manual to electronic filing," she said.
The KW-IRS boss commended residents who had already complied with the initial 31st March deadline and urged others yet to file their returns to take advantage of the extension.
"We appreciate all compliant taxpayers who met the statutory deadline. We encourage others to utilise this extension and file their returns via our user-friendly portal, which is accessible 24 hours a day," Omoniyi added.
She further advised taxpayers seeking assistance to visit any KW-IRS office across the state or reach out through the agency's official communication channels.
The statement was signed by Funmilola Oguntunbi, Head of the Corporate Affairs Department of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service.
