Kwara Orders School Reopening While Prioritising Public Safety In State
The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has directed schools across the state to reopen on Monday, 5 January 2026, with the exception of locations currently undergoing special security measures.
"We welcome our children and teachers back to school across the state. Learning activities are to resume immediately in all but areas earlier identified to be under special security surveillance. This structured school resumption is designed to keep our children from harm's way amid renewed security operations. Normal school activities will resume in such places very soon," stated the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe.
He further noted, "In collaboration with the TESCOM and SUBEB, the Ministry wishes our children, teachers, and parents a blessed New Year and an academic session filled with great insights and successes."
To expand access to education beyond traditional classroom settings, the Ministry has introduced a radio-based learning initiative. Reflecting the creativity of the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration, this project is supported by UNICEF and the Nigeria Learning Passport, commencing on Monday, 5 January.
According to the statement, the radio programme will be broadcast on 99.1 Midland FM at 11 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 2.30 p.m. on Fridays. The Ministry added that more radio stations will be included in the schedule shortly to broaden access throughout the state.
