Kwara Police Condemn Brutal Mob Killing of Chief Imam in Tsaragi
The Kwara State Police Command has strongly condemned the brutal killing of the Chief Imam of Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, following a mob attack allegedly carried out by residents who accused him of causing the death of a villager.
According to a statement issued this morning by the Command's spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 9:30 p.m. when Ibrahim Gana, a 25-year-old resident of Sokunkpan Village in Tsaragi, died while receiving treatment in a hospital after a prolonged illness.
The statement revealed that after Gana's death, his brothers, Muhammad Shaaba and Mahmud Gana, accused the Chief Imam, Alhaji Abdullahi Audu, of being responsible for their brother's demise. The two brothers allegedly mobilized others and launched a violent attack on the cleric, killing him in the process.
Police operatives have since commenced an investigation into the incident, and four suspects have been arrested. The statement said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other individuals connected to the crime.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, has however strongly condemned the act, warning residents against resorting to jungle justice or taking the law into their own hands.
He emphasized that such behavior constitutes a criminal offense and will be met with the full weight of the law.
CP Ojo urged members of the public to remain calm and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or through the Command's official communication channels.
