Ilorin Communities Endure Two Week Blackout as IBEDC Faces Public Outcry
Residents of Baboko, Idi Ape, Omoda, and surrounding communities in Ilorin have raised urgent appeals over a two week power outage, demanding immediate intervention from the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to restore electricity.
The blackout, now in its fourteenth day, has severely disrupted businesses, household routines, and essential services across the affected areas. Residents report repeated failed attempts to secure a response from IBEDC despite lodging formal complaints, with no timeline provided for resolution.
Local traders described significant financial losses, while households highlighted challenges with refrigeration, lighting, and water pumping. Community leaders have escalated the matter to Kwara State's Ministry of Power, urging authorities to hold the utility provider accountable for the prolonged disruption.
"This is becoming unbearable," a resident of Omoda told Just Event Online TV. "We pay our bills regularly, yet we're left in darkness without any explanation."
The affected communities are appealing to IBEDC and relevant government authorities to intervene immediately and provide a lasting solution to the power disruption.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the IBEDC spokesperson were unsuccessful.
