Five Kwara Teaching Candidates Disqualified for Fake Degrees; Eight Test Positive for Drugs

Five applicants in a recent teaching profession screening exercise in Kwara State were found to have falsified their degree certificates, allegedly obtained from the University of Ilorin and the Teachers Registration Council (TRC).

Bello Abubakar, Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), revealed these findings at a quarterly inter-ministerial briefing. He also stated that eight other applicants tested positive for controlled drugs during mandatory screenings.

According to TESCOM's chairman, one disqualified candidate tested positive for three dangerous substances: tramadol, cotinine, and another drug. Five others were flagged for presenting forged academic qualifications.

In his own presentation, the state commissioner for works, Abdulquowiy Olododo said the state fire service saved over 192 lives with one casualty recorded between January and march, 2025, safeguiding property worth over 728million naira within the period under review.

The commissioner who advised residents to be safety conscious while using electrical gadgets, also called on them to switch off such gadgets when not in use.
