NDE Launches Loans and Starter Packs for 266 Kwara Residents Under National Employment Drive
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Kwara State has distributed loans and starter packs to 266 beneficiaries as part of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative , which has supported 5,532 people nationwide.
The presentation ceremony in Ilorin marked the resettlement of NDE-trained beneficiaries, with the agency's Director-General, Silas Agara, represented by Mrs Folarin Modupe Josephine. Speaking at the event, Agara highlighted that over the past three months, the NDE has equipped 33,692 unemployed youths, women, and persons with disabilities with vocational training to empower them as self-employed entrepreneurs and future employers of labour.
The initiative aims to reduce unemployment by providing practical skills and resources to enable beneficiaries to establish sustainable businesses. In Kwara State alone, the 266 recipients will use the support to launch ventures aligned with their newly acquired skills, contributing to local economic growth.
“The Renewed Hope Employment Initiative is designed to generate employment opportunities, support the growth of small-scale enterprises, enhance agricultural productivity, improve rural infrastructure, and provide transitional jobs. In turn, this will foster economic growth and empower our communities,” she said.
Some of the beneficiaries included participants under programmes such as the Graduate Attachment Programme, Environmental Beautification Training Scheme, Rural Employment Promotion, and Small-Scale Enterprises, among others.
In his speech at the event, the State Commissioner for Youth Development, Ambassador Shehu Ndanusa Usman, who also represented the wife of the state governor, commended the NDE for its dedication to poverty eradication and economic development.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the opportunity for good purposes and to extend the gesture by helping members of their communities.
Also, the State Coordinator of the NDE, Mr Kudabo Olufemi Gabriel, encouraged the beneficiaries to utilise the equipment provided effectively rather than selling them, stressing the importance of staying committed to the initiative's objectives.
“I strongly encourage you not to sell the equipment provided through this initiative, as doing so would be counterproductive to its intended goal,” he said.
In a separate interview, Mrs Folarin Modupe Josephine, the representative of the Director-General of the NDE, stated that the loan repayment terms had been made flexible to ensure easy repayment by the beneficiaries.
Speaking about monitoring the progress of the beneficiaries in their various vocations, she mentioned that representatives from the NDE would visit beneficiaries to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
