KWACCIMA Introduces Small Claims Court to Resolve Kwara Commercial Disputes
The Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (KWACCIMA) has launched a small claims court designed to manage commercial disputes involving sums up to ?10 million.
In an address at KWACCIMA's annual general meeting held at its Ganmo secretariat in Kwara State on Tuesday, KWACCIMA President, Mrs. Oluronke Adeyemi SAN, revealed this new initiative. Expressing appreciation to the Kwara State judiciary for its support, Adeyemi also highlighted the association's future goal to establish a high court commercial division capable of handling cases exceeding ?10 million.
She stated, “Our visit to the Chief Judge of Kwara State and the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General regarding the establishment of alternative business conflict resolution mechanisms has yielded positive results. A small claims court has now been established in the state to resolve commercial disputes of ?10 million and below.
“We appreciate the Kwara State judiciary for this accomplishment and look forward to the establishment of a commercial court within the high court dedicated to disputes above ?10 million.”
In her address, delivered by Deputy President Abumanager Salami, Adeyemi highlighted the strengthened relationship between KWACCIMA and the state government under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq's administration.
She noted the active involvement of chamber members in business-friendly government initiatives, public hearings on business legislation, and the Kwara State Social Investment Programme. Adeyemi acknowledged financial support from the state government and mentioned other achievements, including the formation of the KWACCIMA Cooperative Union, hosting of the 10th Trade Fair, and renovations at the association's secretariat.
The Commissioner for Business, Innovation, and Technology, Damilola Yusuf-Adelodun, praised KWACCIMA's role in promoting development and assured ongoing government support for business infrastructure, financial assistance to SMEs, youth entrepreneurship programmes, and other business initiatives.
In a goodwill message, the state Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Abolore Afeez, encouraged KWACCIMA members to partner with the ministry to boost economic growth, noting the ministry's revitalisation under Governor Abdulrasaq's leadership.
