Housewife Seeks Divorce, Custody, and Support in One-Year Marriage

Date: 2024-10-30

According to the Daily Post, a housewife, Kafilat AbdulLateef, appealed to the Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday to dissolve her one-year-old marriage to Bukoye Abdullateef.

Kafilat, residing at 101 Abisam Area, Offa Local Government Area, informed the court that she no longer wished to continue with the marriage, citing a lack of love and care as her reasons.

She has requested a divorce along with custody of their only child, in addition to monthly support payments of ?50,000. Her husband, however, expressed his desire to remain married and opposed the divorce request.

The presiding Judge, Toyin Aluko, noted that: “It is always disturbing whenever young couples that are new in marriage apply for divorce”.

Aluko urged the two parties to tolerate each other and try to live together in peace.

The court adjourned the case until January 14, for a report of settlement.
