Date: 2013-01-16

The Kwara Government has inaugurated a Site Board Committee to prevent cases of land encroachment in public schools across the state.

Inaugurating the committee on Wednesday in Ilorin, Alhaji Saka Onimago, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, said members of the body were drawn from various ministries and parastatals in the state.

Onimago, who was represented by Alhaji Alabi, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, noted that the members were also drawn from the Bureau of Lands, Surveyor General’s office. "In addition, those involved are Ministries of Justice and Town Planning, Teachers Service Commission and State Universal Basic Education Board," he said.

The commissioner said that the ministry set up the committee to find permanent solution to the incessant problem of land encroachment in public schools across the 16 local government areas of the state.

According to him, the committee is the sole custodian and responsible for the acquisition of lands for schools.
