Community Leader's House Razed In Kwara
The house of the Alangua of Wara, Alhaji Saka Imam, in Il?rin West LGA of Kwara State has been razed down by a fire, leaving about 20 people homeless.
The Monday night fire was attributed to a power surge.
Our correspondent learnt that it took over four hours before the firemen quenched the blaze.
The Youth Leader of the community, Ridwan Opakunle, told City & Crime on Tuesday that, “One of the tenants plugged his phone and a spark from it when electricity was restored ignited the cooking gas that was placed behind the charger.
“Over 20 affected tenants are now homeless. The alangua, his children and his sick mother who was rushed outside during the incident are taking refuge in a mosque. They could not salvage anything from the inferno.”
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, who confirmed the incident, said, “15 rooms and some shops were affected by the fire.''
