Kwara fire service recovers dead boy from well
The Kwara State Fire Service said that it had recovered the body of a seven-year-old boy identified as Abdul-Haayi from a domestic well in the Akerebiata area, Ilorin in Ilorin East Local Government Area of the state.
The boy was reported to have fallen into the well on Monday evening when his leg slipped and he died before his body was recovered by men of the state fire service.
The corpse of the boy was later handed to one Mr Yusuff believed to be a family member of the deceased.
According to a statement by the head of Media and Publicity of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, made available to PUNCH Metro on Tuesday, it read, “On Monday, 6th November, 2023, a boy of about seven years old called Abdull-Haayi of Yaa-Lateef House, Tinu Street Akerebiata area Ilorin, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State, fell into a domestic well and was recovered dead.
“The terrible incident occurred at about 17:28hrs (05:28PM) and the brigade was summoned through an exchange telephone call by one Mr Idowu living in that neighbourhood.
“However, firemen were able to recover the dead body from the well and later handed it over to one Mr Yussuf, a family member of the deceased.
“According to the report, the boy went to fetch water at the well and during the process of fetching, one of his legs suddenly slipped off the ground and eventually tumbled down into the well.”
Adekunle said the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, expressed his sadness over the incident.
The director appealed to the general public to be more careful in their day-to-day activities and that they should desist from sending underage children to fetch water in domestic well.
