Community Group Set to Build Hostel in Omu-Aran
A community group under the aegis of Merit Club, Kwara State is set to construct a 100-bed-space-capacity hall of residence in Omu-Aran High School in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony of the building in Omu-Aran, the chairman of the club, Chief Kunle Oyinloye, said that the structure would be handed over to the school authority before the commencement of next academic session in September 2013.
Oyinloye, who is also the Managing Director of Nigerian Infrastructure Bank Plc, said that the gesture was the first phase of the club's pledge to the community during the last Omu-Aran Descendants Union (ODU) Day celebration.
He said the hall of residence would be furnished with modern facilities to encourage easy learning for boarding students and reduce the rate of prevalent students' failure in secondary schools.
Also speaking, former president of ODU, Chief Peter Oyinloye, said the union had renovated school laboratories, procured science equipment and materials to four secondary schools in the community.
The four secondary schools were Omu-Aran High School, Ogbo Grammar School, Ofe-Aran Commercial College and Aperan Comprehensive College.
"Bishop David Oyedepo donated N40 million to the union, out of which about N30.7 million was expended in the procurement of science, agriculture and Home Economics materials.
"We also purchased 80 sets of computer plus their back-ups and tables. Other items purchased were ceilings, industrial fans, tiling of computer laboratories and rehabilitation of 18 classrooms in our four community colleges," he said.
"The union equally released N250,000 each to Government Secondary School, ECWA Girls Secondary School, Ansaruldeen College and Christian College all in Omu-Aran in the provision of science equipment.
"The Ekuu Bridge estimated to cost N29 million was completed with N12 million by Turning Point Construction Company Ltd. This has opened the section of the road from ECWA Girls College to Federal Government Girls College, Ilofa road for use," he said.
