Teacher, security guard paraded for rape in Kwara

Date: 2023-08-30

The Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has paraded two persons for allegedly raping a number of teenage girls.

The duo, Idowu Yahaya, 39, and John Balogun, 49, allegedly, sexually abused two girls – one 15 and the other, 17.

Idowu, a private security guard at Ga'a Akanbi area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, is said to have sexually molested the victim in an office.

For his part, John Balogun, a private school teacher, was arrested for raping his 17-year-old step-daughter at Osere area.

In a statement, the State NSCDC Commandant, Umar Mohammed, said rape was one of the “fastest-growing violent crimes” in the society, describing the act as “highly traumatizing” and affecting the victims “psychologically and sociologically”.

Commandant Umar urged parents and guardians to be vigilant. He also encouraged victims not to shy away from reporting rape cases, assuring them that the Corps has a “safe approach” to investigating the criminal act.

He appealed to the general public for “total cooperation”, especially with regard to information required to help combat crime in the society.
