Eko 2012: Team Kwara Football Squad Crashes Out
Team Kwara Football Squad has crashed out in its bid to win Gold medal at the ongoing 18th National Sports Festival tagged 'EKO 2012'.
The Team lost to Team Lagos 2-3 in the penalty shootout decided this morning at the Agege Township Stadium, Lagos.
The Match ended 2-2 yesterday and the penalty had to be postponed to this morning as a result of poor visibility.
Team Kwara will now meet Team Delta in the third place match this evening.
Team Lagos and Team Cross River will play in the final tomorrow at the same venue.
In another development, Team Kwara won additional bronze medal in the men's Badminton doubles.
Team kwara now has one gold, one silver and seven bronze medals.
The final of boxing events hold on Friday at the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Surulere, Lagos.
Rasheed Muyideen of Team Ogun will take on Dauda Azeez of Team Lagos after defeating Etukubo Robert of Team Akwa- Ibom in the semi final of the 49kg category, while Osiemede Taiba of Edo State will try to stop Omotayo Saadu of Team Ogun in the 51kg category, and Yusuf Yinka of Team Bauchi will attempt to outsmart Sanusi Musiliu of Team Osun for the gold in the final of the 52kg weight category.
Also, Sunday Omobolanle of Team Ogun engages Oriyomi Aishat of Team Lagos in the 54kg category, as Sanusi Abiodun also of Team Ogun engages Team Oyo's Ogunbanjo Sheriff in the 56k.
Again James Femi of Team Ondo fights Odion Onome of Team Ogun in today's final of the 57kg category.
Soyoye Kazeem of Team Ogun will gun for the gold medal against Team Lagos' Otto Joseph in the 60kg category, as Okebugwu Flora of Team Abia takes on Olaniyi Bola of Team Ogun in the 60kg category in a female contest.
16 boxers from Team Ogun are already in the medal zone, while Team, Lagos have about nine medal prospects at the Nigeria's most prestigious sporting competition taking place in Lagos.
Meanwhile, the dominance of Team Delta in the swimming event continued yesterday after the Niger Delta team claimed five gold medals in five events.
The team won the men's 800metre freestyle, 100metre freestyle, and 200metre backstroke.
In the women's event, the team won the 100metre backstroke, 4X100metre freestyle relay.
