Kwara community protest over poor drainage system, fault Unifoam company

Residents­ of Aduagbewa community at Asadam area in Kwara State, on Wednesday, protested over poor drainage system, faulting Unifoam company and accusing it of blocking their water ways.

The residents, while expressing their grief, said that the company has neglected his responsibility to channel its drainage, adding that it usually causes heavy flood and yearly disaster.

Speaking with The Informant247, The chairman of the community Ahmed Adeogun stressed that they have seek government intervention but it all proved abortive.

He stressed that the nonchalant attitude of the government and the company has caused a lot damages to many buildings and roads linking the community

Adeogun added that whenever they invite the neighboring company, Unifoam's management for a meeting, they won't show up.

He said, “The Unifoam company sited in our community has damaged our road. And all our effort to keep peace with the company's management proved abortive. The environmental agencies have came to inspect the area but we didn't hear anything from them since then. If we invite unifoam for a meeting, they will not show up”.

Barr Ibrahim Olanrewaju, the community lawyer told The Informant247 that the protest is necessary to express their grievances in a peaceful manner over the bad drainage which was caused by the Unifoam company.

B division police DPO, Mr Wale Ojo on his arrival at the scene, addressed the protesters, imploring them to leave the major road to allow movement of vehicle.

However, neither the management nor staff of Unifoam was there to address the protesters.

Meanwhile, The Informant247 was able to reach the company's lawyer. Barr, Mojirola Ibiyemi via a telephone call.

Barr. Ibiyemi described the protest as an economic sabotage, saying that the community lodged their complain this year and their letter was responded to immediately.
