Kwara Assembly tasks Gov Abdulrazaq on establishment of modern market
The Kwara State House of Assembly Tuesday urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to work out modalities towards establishing modern markets.
The lawmakers said this was to ensure transaction of specific goods or items in different parts of the state.
This was part of the resolutions of the House after considering a Motion on Notice titled “Need to Establish More Modern Markets Designated For Specific Goods and Services to Restore Sanity in Existing Markets in Kwara State”.
The House Leader, Alhaji Abubakar Olawoyin, who moved the motion at the plenary, expressed displeasure that available markets within Ilorin Metropolis were already congested with the distortion of the original master plan.
Olawoyin listed the existing markets as Oja-Oba, Oja-Tuntun, Mandate Market, Owode market in Offa, Ilesha Baruba Market, Bode Saadu and Ajase-Ipo Kara Markets.
Other lawmakers in their contributions stressed the need for other parts of the state to benefit from the new Master Plan in the establishment of new markets to ensure equity in resource allocation.
Reading the resolutions of the House, Speaker Yakubu Salihu urged Gov. Abdulrazaq to direct all Local Governments, Ministries to liaise with Kwara State Geographic Information System.
He said it was to make the establishment of modern markets in different parts of the state a reality.
Salihu also called on the leadership of Market Associations to sensitise their members to dangers in conversion of access roads and other facilities in the markets to other uses, contravening the Master Plans.
