2023: 38-Year-Old Saraki's Aide Joins Kwara Guber Race
Mr. Baba Idris, a 38-year-old former aide of ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki has joined the 2023 gubernatorial race in Kwara State.
The aspirant is a long-time aide of Saraki. He hails from Edu Local Government in Kwara North senatorial district.
He is the youngest aspirant to be vying for the gubernatorial seat.
Idris joined the race days after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial ticket was zoned to the district.
The region last tasted power in 1992 when former Governor Shaaba Lafiagi was in charge of the state during the botched Third Republic.
Idris would be following the steps of the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Engr. Danladi Yakubu Saliu who was elected a lawmaker at the age of 34.
Meanwhile, a Coalition of Kwara Youths and Young Professionals have called on the party and the electorates in the state to throw their support behind him irrespective of political parties, ethnicity of religion.
Speaking at a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre, in Ilorin, they noted that there's no time better than now for the youths to take over power from the aged ones and meaningfully chart a course forward for Kwara and Nigeria at large.
Abdulrahman Mohammed, who addressed newsmen, said the youths possess the energy, qualifications, exposure, ideas and orientations, even more than some members of the older generation to lead Kwara and Nigeria to the promised land.
According to him, Nigeria requires the vibrancy and energy and that characterizes youthfulness to rescue it from the pervasive socio-economic and political quagmire bedevilling the nation.
