NULGE calls for implementation of local government autonomy

Date: 2022-04-06

The federal government has been urged to ensure total implementation of local government autonomy to drive development across the country.

The President of the National Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE), Kwara state chapter, Comrade Oyinlade Oluwaseun made the call while speaking with Journalists in Ilorin.

Comrade Oluwasun said all finances relating to the local government should be sent to them directly without any interference.

The NULGE chieftain said the idea of autonomy is to bring more development to people at the grassroots.

He called for the abolition of the joint allocation committee in order to allow the local governments – the third tier of government and the closest to the rural dwellers - to exist.

Comrade Oluwaseun demanded that necessary provisions be put in place to ensure adequate monitoring of their finances in order to, he said, prevent mismanagement.
