Kwara revokes Kishi-Kaiama road contract awarded by previous government

Date: 2021-11-03

The Kwara State Government has revoked the Kishi-Kaiama road contract awarded by the previous administration to Rocad Construction Limited.

The revocation, according to the state Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu," is as a result of objections by the Federal government."

She said the contract would now be awarded to Construction Product Nigeria limited, CPN, that won the bid in line with the provisions of extant laws and the position of the Federal government.

"Section one of the road, stretching 34.5 kilometres, between Kaiama and Tesse, will gulp over N3.7b," according to the Commissioner, who briefed newsmen on Tuesday in Ilorin at the end of the state cabinet meeting.

She disclosed among others, projects approved at the meeting which include the flag off of the construction of the Osi-Obbo Ayegunle highway, described as a strategic border motorway connecting Kwara to Ekiti state.

Hajia Modibbo Kawu, said the cabinet also approved the award of a contract to execute the Kwara Learn P programme seeking to tackle absenteeism, boost school enrollment, upgrade children in public schools to digital learning and improve education outcomes.

The executive council, further approved for the state government, like other states of the federation, to key into the Federal government's N18b bridge finance to underwrite old loans inherited from the former administration, as well as execute some infrastructural projects in the state.

"This bridge finance, is the initiative of the Federal government to cushion the effects of loan repayment on the states, including the facilities the former administration received in September and December 2015," the Commissioner explained.

Modibbo Kawu, also announced that the cabinet further approved the construction of a flyover at Tanke-Pipeline junction in Ilorin metropolis to mitigate the current chaotic traffic logjam in the busy area.
