Governor Ahmed signs Kwara budget to law

THE Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed yesterday signed the 2012 Appropriation Bill of N91.329 billion into law with a promise to demonstrate transparency in the implementation of the budget's provision.

Yesterday's event was sequel to the passage of the budget proposals earlier presented by the Governor to the State House of Assembly in December last year into law. The Assembly, however, jacked the budget size up from N91.007 billion to N91.329 billion, representing an increase of about N322.484.

Speaking after signing the budget into law at the Government House, Ilorin, Alhaji Ahmed described the exercise as an important step for his administration's determination towards bringing about share prosperity by putting together a budget of consolidation and development. The governor disclosed that the concept of performance contracting recently introduced by his administration would be applied to ensure strict implementation of the budget.

He noted that the budget was designed largely to stimulate the economy of the State to meet with the yearnings of people in terms of dividends of democracy saying the budget will support the people in the areas of strong priorities of roads, education and human capital development, health, potable water supply and electricity, adding that it will also have some strong areas of economic development.
