Cleric Proffers Solutions to Nation's Problems
A Muslim cleric, Alhaji Abdulkadir Imam, has examined 52 years of Nigeria's independence and concluded that "Unless we put trusted and God-fearing people who are ready to address the plight of the masses genuinely at the position of authority, we will continue to have problems".
Imam Abdulkadir who is the Chief Imam of Oluwakemi Central Mosque, Itamerin area, Ilorin, spoke during his Jum'at sermon, expressing worry over the state of the nation.
He emphasized the need for Nigerians, especially leaders to see leadership positions and even life as transient.
This, he noted would make them deliver their responsibilities with the fear of God.
The Muslim leader called on Nigerians to shun money politics and elect credible people in the position of authority to ensure a better future for the country.
Calling on government at all levels to give priority attention to the welfare of the masses, he admonished people to avoid selfish interest.
Building a virile nation according to him is the responsibility of both the leaders and the led.
He advised well-to-do Muslims to spend their wealth on the course of Islam and assist the needy and less privileged in the society so as to attract abundant blessings of God in this life and hereafter.
Speaking on Hajj exercise, he said it is compulsory for every able Muslim and advised intending pilgrims to perform the exercise in accordance with laid down rules and regulations.
The quoted the verses of Holy Quran to buttress his point that, "Whoever determines to perform pilgrimage therein shall be no immodest-speech or altercation in the pilgrimage. And make provision for yourselves, the best provision being to keep one's duty. And keep your duty to me, O men of understanding".
He therefore admonished intending pilgrims to prepare for exercise with fear of God and shun acts that could make them lose abundant blessings therein.
